Britain nationality, and Mr Yeap having protested vigorously against this decision and appealed to His Majesty's Government for support, I am now instructed by H.M. Principal Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs to solicit Your Excellency's intervention in the matter and to request you to issue the necessary instructions to the local authorities at Swatow to recognise Mr Yeap Eng Koon's claim to British nationality and his right to be protected as much by the British Consular authorities in China.
I would repeat that Mr Yeap's father and grandfather were British subjects born in British territory and that he himself was born in Formosa while his father was in the service of the British Government there, and that his claim under British Law to British Nationality are therefore indisputably good.
